Finaliste en 2005, troisième l’an dernier, l’équipe de la ligue Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur des moins de 13 ans, composée de Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (Oustau), Margot Bechadergue (Aix-Marseille), Salomé Zasio (Frégate), Julian Audibert (Aix-Marseille), Adonis Asikian (Cannes-Mougins), Thomas Boulanger (Frégate), David Larbaron (St-Donat) et Meyer-Nayhan Benchimol (Cannes-Mougins), est devenue championne de France pour la première fois en battant la Lorraine (14 à 5) en finale sur le parcours de l’Aigle du Golf National.
Victorieuse de la qualification (avec deux coups d’avance sur Rhône-Alpes et sept sur Paris) sous une pluie continue, la ligue Paca n’a pas perdu une seule rencontre tout au long de la compétition, évitant ainsi les repêchages. La jeune équipe composée par Jean-Marc Delfino a successivement battu Pays de la Loire, Nord – Pas de Calais, Ile de France, Aquitaine (tenant du titre), et Paris.
En finale, face à la Lorraine, invaincue elle aussi, les Provençaux n’ont laissé aucune chance à leurs adversaires en prenant l’ascendant dès les premiers trous : « C’était la consigne car, sur neuf trous en greensome, il est très difficile de renverser la situation quand on est menés, explique l’entraîneur de ligue. Ils sont restés concentrés et ont bénéficié de la baisse de régime des Lorrains pour l’emporter sur un score flatteur (14 à 5). » Tous les membres de la délégation provençale ne pouvaient espérer meilleur entraînement et tremplin à la veille de l’ouverture des championnats de France des Jeunes qui débuteront mardi au Golf National.
