Quand les Boys travaillent leur endurance mentale
À la veille d’un stage d’évaluation de deux jours sur le golf de Vidauban, Joris Etlin, Julien de Poyen, Nicolas Manifacier, Pierre Mazier, Romain Langasque, Paul Genestou, Julien Marot et Thomas Le Berre ont participé à une longue et éprouvante séance sur le parcours (5 trous) de l’académie du Provençal Golf.
Le programme imaginé par Cyril Gouyon, le responsable du Pôle France Boys, et Jean Fournier, chargé de mission auprès de la FFG pour la préparation mentale, consistait à mettre les huit Boys en situation de jeu sur six distances déterminées (90, 80, 70, 60, 50 et 40 m) à effectuer en deux coups, le par exigé. En cas de réussite, ils passaient au trou suivant. À l’inverse, un échec les obligeait à le rejouer tant que le par n’était pas atteint.
L’exercice ne se limitait pas à un seul tour mais à trois, c’est-à-dire à dix-huit trous en « super stroke-play ». Et pour le corser davantage, à tour de rôle, les Boys devaient porter des écouteurs dans lesquels, par talky-walky, Cyril Gouyon distillaient quelques messages « perturbateurs » pour les obliger à reprendre leur routine. Leurs réactions étaient alors analysées par l’entraîneur national et Jean Fournier.
Après deux heures au cours desquelles tous les joueurs se sont montrés très concentrés et appliqués, certains d’entre eux ont commencé à laisser paraître des signes d’agacement, quelques jurons fusant ici et là, preuves qu’ils n’étaient pas loin de leur point de rupture.
Sur les huit, quatre (Pierre Mazier, Romain Langasque, Joris Etlin et Nicolas Manifacier) sont parvenus à boucler les dix-huit trous avant que l’obscurité n’oblige Cyril Gouyon à interrompre l’exercice. Pierre Mazier a établi le meilleur score (100) pour un par établi à 36. Les autres se situaient entre 12 et 16 trous, totalisant pour certains plus de 140 coups tapés, l’équivalent de deux parties !
« Le but de cette séance était de reproduire un état émotionnel dans lequel ils peuvent se trouver après un scénario imprévu lors d’un tournoi capital, explique Cyril Gouyon. À ce moment-là, ils peuvent très vite basculer sur un mode de fonctionnement avec une prise d’informations incomplète, une perte de lucidité qui risquent de donner lieu à un enchaînement de trous moyens voire catastrophiques. Ils doivent donc s’entraîner à conserver de la qualité quel que soit le contexte et les perturbations. »
La journée s’est terminée par un débriefing au Creps d’Antibes avec Jean Fournier qui leur a rappelé comment gérer une distraction intérieure ou extérieure, rester concentré sur les points d’attention (cible, point de chute, trajectoire), lucide, comment reprendre sa routine. Quelques clés précieuses qu’ils pourront mettre en pratique dès le mois de décembre lors de leur tournée aux États-Unis.
